Strange Place

First light at Trona Pinnacles. When we arrived at the Trona Pinnacles, it was approximately 2:00 a.m. There was no moon, no light other than the headlights of the car I drove. I had no idea what the landscape around me looked like. I slept for a couple of hours before it was time to get up and moving before dawn to photograph the sunrise. When the light came I got my first glimpse of this strange place. These tufa formations in the Mojave Desert were created by precipitation of minerals under the ancient Searles Lake. The lake has long since dried out, but these fascinating tufa spires remain.
