Iceland - Dustin Waits

One of my favorite elements of hiking the Laugavegur Trail is the many beautiful streams and rivers that are crossed during the trek, a stark contrast to the Southern California backcountry that I'm most familiar with. Kaldaklofskvísl is one of those rivers. It's fed by the glacial meltwater from Kaldaklofsfjöll and surrounding high areas. To hike into the Icelandic wilderness and witness the amazing beauty is a life-changing experience. Standing at the edge of Kaldaklofskvísl, hearing the rush of its cold, powerful water, and breathing the clean Icelandic air has a way of soothing the soul and putting one back in touch with our fascinating planet.
