Colors of Alabama Hills

The cottonwoods in Owens Valley were in their peak color while I was there, creating stunning scenery against the snow-covered Eastern Sierras towering over the valley floor to the west. When I first arrived in Alabama Hills this lone Fremont cottonwood tree standing in the rocks caught my attention. It was the first subject that I photographed when I arrived, and it was the last subject that I photographed when I left 3 days later. This photograph was taken early in the morning as I was leaving Lone Pine and heading toward Bishop. The soft, cool light illuminated the scene in pastel colors in the moments before sunrise.
