My name is Dustin L. Waits. I'm an outdoor photographer in Southern California. I got started in photography as a teenager, shooting black and white 35mm and medium format film. Over the years I have moved and traveled around the world, gaining new knowledge, experiences, and tuning my photographic technique. I've developed a passion for exploration, and a love for the natural world. These are the ideas that motivate most of my photographic works, exploration and nature. While some of my images depict portraits, cityscapes and man-made structures, I tend to favor the natural setting above all else.
Walking is my preferred method of travel to many of the locations seen in my photographs. While vehicles are necessary for covering large distances, walking allows me to see the finer details of the environment that surrounds me, whether it be a multi-day backpacking trip, a short day-hike, or a casual stroll through an unfamiliar town. This enables me to reach areas that are often missed by many traveling photographers, and it helps me to experience a place to the fullest extent. My works aren't just images captured at the release of a shutter. They are an experience. A specific moment, in a specific place. As a photographer, I strive to bring that experience to you.
