San Diego County is the most biologically diverse county in the United States. Taking a drive from the coast to the Colorado Desert of Anza-Borrego State Park will take you through several geological and biological transitions. Chaparral, the most abundant biome of the region, can be seen in areas throughout the entire county. This habitat is made up of dense woody shrubs and hosts many endemic plant and animal species. My favorite time to see the chaparral is in the early morning because of the soft light and colors. This image was taken at dawn while backpacking on the Noble Canyon Trail.
